The Impressive Technology Review Site




I’d been to the Technology Review site before but this time I noticed that there was an audio button. I had begun reading a very interesting article on Quantum Computing and while still on the first page I’d noticed the audio link. I decided to listen to the remaining three pages rather than read and I was impressed with what I heard. The site is using text-to-speech software but instead of the rather awful robotic voices that are supplied free with Microsoft Vista, the male voice that I listened to sounded almost human. It made a few odd pronunciations of quite simple words like “atom” and “nil” and made a complete mess of Schrodinger (with an umlaut over the ‘o’) but overall I was very impressed. This is surely the future of web pages. Sometimes you just read so much that you want to give your eyes a rest and what could be better than having the content read to you.
