Firefox Flash Problems in Ubuntu
Just when things were going well, I ventured to YouTube and that where the problems all began. At first my browser simply froze and so did the entire operating system. I had to reboot. I thought that I was probably missing a flash plugin for Firefox and so I downloaded and installed the Adobe flash player plugin. After this, the browser refused to open the YouTube site. I sought help on the Ubuntu forums and there were plenty of pleas for help and plenty of advice being offered. There seem to be problems with the latest version of Firefox running flash in both Windows and Linux.
One solution suggested was to run this code in the console:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree icedtea-java7-plugin
I rebooted after downloading the 27Mb of files associated with this command and at first things looked good. YouTube opened and I tried to open a flash video but the moment I did, the browser crashed and after that I couldn’t access the site at all. So I’m still struggling. I may have to resort to using Opera if I can’t get to YouTube because it’s a site I often access for teaching resources. I’ll keep trying more of the suggestions in the Ubuntu forums for a little longer.
