Scribd and Blogging
Click on the graphic above to see it more clearly. I’ve noticed that when Edublogs resizes the original image to fit into the 450 pixel wide column, it doesn’t resample and so the image looks awful. I’ll try not to repeat this mistake.
I had visited Scribd before, even signed up, and then promptly forgot about it. I need to keep reviewing my del.icio.us bookmarks more regularly or otherwise I forget half the stuff I come across. Scribd is a site that allows for the uploading of personal documents and even full e-books that anybody can read. You have to sign up if you want to upload your own material. I’ve only been looking at e-books that were originally hard copy books but that have been uploaded by certain members. There’s an interesting range of titles available: so far I’ve downloaded some 13 books including two titles that I had in my lost library in Australia. These are Kundalini by Gopi Krishna and The Mothman Prophecies by John Keel.
In reviewing the site for this post, I just downloaded another two books: one called Occult Ether Physics by William Lyne (about Tesla’s hidden space propulsion system and the conspiracy to conceal it) and the other is an autobiography by Nikola Tesla that I’m looking very forward to reading. This is the danger of the site: its addictiveness. Books can generally be downloaded in PDF, Word or plain text format. The age of the e-book has certainly arrived for me and for a year or more now I’ve been reading more e-books than physical books.
Moving on to the subject of blogging, I’ve embedded a link to a series of slides on slideshare about the different sorts of blogs that can be created. I’d never thought about categorising them before but somebody obviously has. It’s also an opportunity to test out the embedding of the slides from the slideshare site.
