Ninging On
Well there are now 11 other members of my social network on Ning, all students in my Year 11 Technology Class. I chose to make Robotics as the theme of the site, because that’s what we are currently investigating. The experiment has proven quite successful I think. The students have all contributed to a blog and a forum discussion that I set up. Most have added a video about Robotics and some have rated and added comments to the videos that other students have uploaded.
It was last Sunday night that I sent out e-mail invitations to join the site. I’d not mentioned anything about my experiment and I was surprised to find that half the class had joined within the hour. I guess they take to it so quickly because they already have extensive experience in popular social networking sites like Friendster, MySpace and Facebook. It’s certainly proving an easy way to get students collaborating on and contributing to a specific project.
