Ning
I had a look at a social networking site called Ning at www.ning.com. What makes it different from other social networking sites is that you set up your own site and invite other people to join. I had a look at an educational site that a teacher had set up in order to study the 1970s and was quite impressed. The location is www.seventies.ning.com and I added a comment of my own to the blog on that site. Each site comes with a blog, forum, video and audio embedding, templates and so on. If the site is being set up for educational purposes, you can request that it displays no advertisements. I did this and have set up a site at www.voodooguru.ning.com. Sadly at the moment it has only one member (me) but on my return to school, I’ll try to use with my Year 11 students. I think Ning has interesting educational possibilities.
